My Favorite Films of 2025
This year, I made a commitment to myself to use Letterboxd. I was first introduced to Letterboxd by my high school film & humanities teacher, Mr. Empsall, but I could never remember to keep up with it afterwards. Over the years, it’s become a sort of overwhelming notion that I’ll never be able to add all the movies I’ve ever watched in my life; I don’t want to have some but not others. So, I made a compromise. I made a new account, and since January 1st, 2025, I’ve added all of the movies that I’ve watch this year. At the end of 2024, I became so addicted to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 that I became an AMC A-List member. Ideally, I would be going to Disney Springs’s AMC to watch a movie at least once a week. I didn’t reach that goal (I lived a whole new life this year, ok?), but I did watch a lot of movies. Here are some of my favorite movies that I watched in 2025!!!!

My ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ rating system !
My rating system is succinct and precise, but nothing crazy. I keep it in my notes app and check it after every movie I watch.
One of Them Days (2025)
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ 1/2
My first favorite movie of the year was one that I watched with my best Disney friends, back in January. One of Them Days had us crying laughing in the theater. It was funny and witty, and my Letterboxd review reads as follows: “best movie of 2025 and maybe ever.” I loved it. Keke Palmer is truly a star of comedy and SZA was the perfect companion for her. I was rooting for them the whole movie and I actually really was on the edge of my seat, worried they weren’t going to succeed. But of course they did.
Companion (2025)
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ 1/2
I watched this movie three times this year. The first time, I took myself to AMC back in February just to watch something. The second time was on a flight to New York this summer, and the third was when I came back home from that trip, and I thought my boyfriend would like it (he did). It was funny and creative and I loved it every time I watched it. Jack Quaid is such a star and Sophie Thatcher is so beautiful and on point.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937)
☆ ☆ ☆ 1/2
I fell in love with Snow White this year. It started when I went to watch the Rachel Zegler version that was released this year (which I also really liked, not sorry!), and I decided that I might as well watch the original, something I had never done before. She climbed to spot number 3 in my favorite princess list. The first full-length feature animated film, the only princess to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Snow White is literally just that girl. She’s kind and powerful because of it. I watch this movie, and I want to be kind. It’s the classic of classics, the very beginning.
Superman (2025)
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
What kind of list would this be without Superman? Truly my favorite film of the year, Superman reminded me of what it means to be a hero. Growing up an avid Marvel fan, it was refreshing and brightening to see a hero truly care about humanity in a way I forgot heroes are supposed to care. The use of color stuck out the most, it was just beautiful. It was bright and exciting and different and new. It was exactly the movie that we needed.
Cinderella (1997)
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
No costume design has ever costume designed the way this costume design costume designed. There’s so many wonderful, wonderful things about this movie, but for me, the costumes make it one of my favorites. From the second the movie opens and you see the villagers, to Brandy’s beautiful blue gown- as a girl who loves fashion and clothing, I would’ve given anything to be in that costume department.
Eternity (2025)
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ 1/2
I can’t even begin to talk about the emotional adventure and rollercoaster that I went on while I watched this movie. It made you feel either option she could have chosen was the right one. It was bright and lovely to look at. It was emotional and funny. It was a true romcom. A real back and forth, and really making you wonder what really matters to you when it comes to love. It was honest and true, and the trio of stars each played their characters perfectly.
I watched in total 64 movies this year, but including rewatches, I sat 77 times in front of a tv screen or movie screen. I love watching my favorite movies over and over again, and I love walking to an AMC deciding what random thing I’m going to watch today. Spend more time in your local movie theaters next year, and I hope you’ll find some new favorites!
